No James Dean

September 16, 2009 | Written by: Nick

It’s official, I’ve completed and screened my first film for the 48HOUR FILM PROJECT here in Miami back in 2008. Let me say that it was an exhausting experience, but a great experience. It’s been a truly test of skills and creativity to see whether or not I was able to pull off such a task within 48 hours. If you want to know more about the festival and contest, check out: 48HOUR FILM PROJECT.

But honestly, this is a great lesson in developing and really thinking things through to get the proper quality footage’s. Organization is the key. And it’s really hard when you have to depend on yourself.

What was really interesting was that I ended up doing the Robert Rodriguez thing. Being the one man - do it all thing. Not only did I have to write the script, organize the production, manned the camera, edit the footages, I even had to score the tracks.

While the end product sounded fairly simple, just tinkering on the piano for hours drove me nuts. Oh btw, editing footages and doing post production on a laptop is definitely a suck. I need to upgrade… but then again, I did the best that I could with what I had.

More importantly, regardless of what some people might think or say of the finished product - I’m actually quite proud of the short film I made. Considering the limited resources and time I had. And in a way, it was nice to prove that I can make a film from start to finish. Let’s just hope I can apply that to a featured film.

If you would, leave a comment about the film!

Overall, I liked it. Small parts of scenes seemed a little stiff. The big guy leaning in and out (side view) got a bit monotonous. The dialog sound through out feels like a cave–I don’t know how you would fix that–except for the intentional echo parts (I liked that).

I’m glad to see you filming again.

Well done Nick…for the amount of time you had and limited resources, you made a good short film. Keep me up to date on how it does and get rid of those nervous feelings brother, you’re building your resume and most important of all, creating!

    Bravo!

I just got to check out your short…it leaves me wanting more. Interesting concept - the title is great and I found myself absorbed in the scene with the ‘middleman’… Wondering what would happen next. You are so talented and I admire how you continue to follow your dreams. I love the music and the editing is edgy giving a wild dangerous feel.

I hadn’t seen that one…it’s VERY good…. and I loved the outtakes, too. Where on earth did you find the big guy with the scarey laugh? I’d hate to run into him in a dark alley! You all did a wonderful job on this one, too…. my only problem is that they are over way too soon!
